Eight state attorneys general have been grabbing national headlines this week by demanding that MySpace hand over the names of registered sex offenders using the site. MySpace has responded with an announcement that it has identified, removed and blocked thousands of user profiles of convicted sex offenders as part of an ongoing program to protect young members from adult predators. MySpace also shot back at the AGs, pointing out that state and federal law makes it illegal for them to hand over the kind of information the AGs are demanding without a subpoena, court order, or search warrant.
